Harvest Hope Food Bank (HHFB), established in 1981 as an emergency boxed meal food program, has grown into a regional food distribution center serving 20 counties in central South Carolina. The food bank has three warehouse and distribution locations in Columbia, Florence and Greenville to facilitate the distribution of food to the hungry. With the mission to provide for the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing quality food with dignity, compassion and education, Harvest Hope provides for the needs of hungry people through more than 400 member agencies that are food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, as well as two Harvest Hope managed emergency food pantries. The majority of counties served by Harvest Hope are among the most rural in South Carolina. To address the unique hunger needs of these communities, Harvest Hope operates several programs providing direct service. These programs include Mobile Food Pantries (MFP) that deliver pre-packed boxes of food to underserved area, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) which is a federal program supplementing the diets of qualified seniors, and Kids Cafes, an after-school program that provides evening meals to school-age children.
